The work study program is an extension of a student’s education through on-the-job experience in a working environment. Students are required to attend school for one-half of a day and work the other half. The purpose of the program is to give students on-the-job-experience in order to enhance their employability after graduation. This program is a partnership between the school and the community work force.  The student schould see their guidance counselor regarding this.

 

Course Requirements:

1. A student must have employment for the entire school year and must be employed during regular school hours.

 

2. A formal application must be completed and submitted to the principal by July 31 in order to be admitted to the program. The following must be included in the application:

 

                  a. A letter of request from the student with a parent signature.

 

                  b. A letter of recommendation from the employer. A copy of the job description and hours of employment must be included.

 

                  c. Working papers, if under 18 years of age.

 

3. Administrative approval.

 

4. A written report relating to work activities and an evaluation by the employer must be submitted at the end of each marking period.

 

5. A student must have satisfactory attendance records and grades. A grade point average below 2.0 will disqualify a student from work study.  Also, the student must have been present in school 80% of the time during the previous year to qualify.
