  • Hints for Homework
       
       Middle level students have a lot going on between social events, athletic events, and school demands on top of home life.  One of the best ways a parent can help their young adolescent it to stay on top of it all is to discuss strategies that may best work for your lifestyles.  Have your youngster write a 'to do' of all their tasks.  Ask them to number them from 1 - 10 and to save the easiest for last to help him/her end on an easy task.  Starting with the harder tasks and getting them out of the way may even leave some extra time for additional studying if needed.
      
       Set up a designated place in the home where homework needs to be done.  A good place is often at the kitchen table.  That way a parent is usually nearby to 'look over' the tasks  or to answer possible questions if needed.  Many kids like to get their homework completed as soon as they get home.  This is a great incentive if they like to watch TV, go outside, or play video games.  Encourage them to show you their completed assignments to earn these privileges.That way, when bed time rolls around, they aren't telling you that they have to complete assignments and delaying going to bed.
     
       Keep homework time a positive time.  Help your child see homework as a chance to prove their skills and independence in completing their tasks.   Don't forget, all of our teachers post their homework on their websites.  Also, grades are always available via the parent portal on Powerschool.  If you have lost this password, just contact the school secretary for another copy.

    Donegal Junior High School has created a Facebook page for parents and/or community members to leave feedback regarding our school.  In essence, this will act as a web-based comment box.  We want to encourage positive communication between school stakeholders so we ask that this venue be used in an appropriate and respectful manner.
