Instrumental music instruction in grades 4- 6 consists of one half hour group lessons once every cycle as well as some larger ensemble instruction. Students may choose to participate in this instruction with band or orchestral instruments. Public performances may be one or more times a year. Instruction for the intermediate level students, who achieve the required level for participation in the band, is during the designated period generally 1 time a cycle. Public performances may include a holiday performance, a spring concert, and traveling to the primary school for an assembly concert. Instruction includes: Assembly of the instrument Instrument Care Technique Music Reading Ensemble playing Choral music instruction in grades 9-12 consists of either Freshman Chorus or Concert Choir as well as sectional rehearsals. The choral classes meet every other day in the schedule. Students are asked to attend 2 sectional rehearsals per marking period. The groups combine for several performances throughout the year. These are: Homecoming, Veterans Day, a Holiday Concert, and Spring Concert as well as some students singing at Commencement. Instruction includes: Vocal warm-ups Voice Care and mechanics Vocal Technique Music Reading Ensemble singing There is also a show choir, Rhythm Singers, which is a group selected by audition. These students rehearse outside of the regular 4 period day and perform many times througout the school year. These include a performance at Hotel Hershey in October and several community Holiday programs as well as the school concert. They also perform at the Spring Concert and several community events in the spring. |
