Students in Grade 7 Fine Arts will be focusing on incorporating all of the Art Elements and Principles of Design. These will be used to create unique works of Art using a variety of media. Works of Art from the Renaissance through to Post Impressionism will be viewed and used as an inspirational resource, historical reference and to introduce artistic choices made by famous artists. The choices that artists make are key to their artwork and students will begin to explore their own personal artistic choices. All students will be introduced to Formal Art Criticism techniques in assessing their work as well as the artwork of fellow students.

Students in Grade 8 will be focusing on communication through the creation of works of Art. They will be introduced to a Design Process which they will use to create unique artworks that convey a message, tell a story and/or evoke an emotional response. They will have used the Art Elements & Principles to create artworks prior to Grade 8, so that this year will provide an opportunity to continue their explorations with an emphasis on communication.

8thgrade students will be introduced to Graphic Design throughout History with an emphasis on the twentieth century, current trends and media exploration in the creation of Art. Creating themes and recognizing connections within the classroom and with other contemporary artists/students will be emphasized. This is the beginning of making a personal statement using art as the venue for communication.
