Instrumental Lesson Info
Instrumental lesson are offered during the school day to interested 4th and 5th grade students. Students will have an assembly in the beginning of the year previewing the available instruments. They will then, with parent permission, be tested on the instruments of theiir choice. Parents should try to attend the parent meeting on Monday, Sept. 17 at 7 PM in the Donegal Springs Elementary Gym. There we will answer questions, discuss specific issues, and explain how to find an instrument. A representative from a local music and instrument rental store will also be present. Intermediate students begin lessons in mid-September, and beginners will begin by the first week of October. Lessons are 30 minutes in length and are taught in small group settings of 1-4 children.
Available instruments currently include:
At this time, we currently do not include lessons in piano, voice, guitar, or drum set. If you are interested in these instruments, contact Mrs. Mendenhall for a referral to a teacher in these areas.
Scheduling lessons is a compicated process. Lessons cannot be scheduled during lunch, specials, and reading clinic (unless permission is given). Students are expected to make up any work that they miss while attending their lesson. Special exceptions can be made for field trips, special classroom events, and tests by speaking to Mrs. Mendenhall before the event takes place.
Students will receive 2 lesson passes per year which they may use when they choose. Absences from school will not affect a student's instrumental lesson grade. Any lessons that are missed without a lesson pass are considered a zero for the lesson. Students who forget their instruments or books are expected to personally inform Mrs. Mendenhall as soon as possible. Failure to do this will result in a zero for the lesson.
Students are also invited to participate in our performing groups from January to April. More information will be sent home about these groups later in the year. They are held before the school day, but transportation can be provided.
